Principle
A calm interface is an ethical choice
The interface decides how much of the user's attention it will take. That decision is not neutral.
- 2025
Every interface implicitly decides how much of the user’s attention it will take, how much it will alarm them, how much it will reward novelty over stability. None of these choices are neutral. They are an ethical position, made on behalf of every person who will use the thing.
Calm interfaces are not a stylistic preference. They are a stance about whose time matters.
